Brive-la-Gaillarde

Le Mans 7080028Le Mans 7080032

Driving out of Le Mans we approached a tunnel with interesting long, wide steps up to the  area above. Looked interesting so we did a quick right turn and drove uphill, along a relatively steep, narrow (what else) road ‘til we reached a small square. Looked good so we stopped for a while to explore. Turned out that we were in the old part of town. The Cathedral Saint - Julien is mostly Gothic and, with it’s modifications, ranges from the 11th century to 15 century. We left Le Mans just after noon. Had to buy shorts & sandles, jeans & shoes too hot. Top temp for the next few days is forcasted to be 30 deg.

We stopped at another couple of villages to stretch legs and look around, but spent most of the afternoon driving. We are staying with Joan & John, Australian friends, in south west France, so had to keep moving to we could arrive there on Wednesday afternoon.

Spent the most of the morning in Chatellerault, drove past a nice little suspenion bridge in  Bonneuil Matours, detoured to a medieval village area of Chauvigny  and are spending the night in Brive-la Gaillarde.

Just had a very nice buffet hors d’oeuvre entree followed by salmon & salad and a very thick, rich choc mousse.

  1. So many hidden treasures to find when you take and investigate "interesting" back roads. Old Town Le Mans looks lovely - I am sure not too many people can say they have driven in Le Mans!
