Honfleur again

Honfleur 7030003 Another day of looking at maisons a colombage = half-timbered houses,  and   watching the boats come in and go out of the old harbour – what a life! The road bridge has to be raised to allow the elegant tall masted boats in and out. There are yachts from England and Holland, as well as many French ones, of course. Further along, a huge lock has to be navigated. No turning paddles here, everything is huge and hydraulic.

As we had to renew the car’s parking docket before midnight, Rick got up and did this at 23.59! The parking merry-go-round is quite something here!

This morning was grey and rainy. The quay-side restaurants spent ages mopping the tables and chairs. Honfleur 7030020

Honfleur 7030018 The nearby Pont de Normandie is a spectacular bridge over the Seine. We took a   boat cruise from Honfleur to the Seine Estuary, passing  under the Pont de Normandie. This bridge is the second longest cable stay bridge in the world.  We sat outside, up front, and were warned that we would get splashed. We didn’t – we got soaked!  Main span is 856 metres. Unintentionally, we drove over it trying to get to Honfleur last Sunday. The GPS lags just enough to help us miss the turns we want, so we ended on a toll road over a big suspension bridge over the Seine estuary, going the wrong way. We had to follow this road towards Le Havre and cross the Seine again, over the Pont de Normandie. The bridge nut wants to park near the bridge and walk across it. We’ll see what the weather brings.Honfleur 7030006

Just moved the car to a different parking place (9:45pm) and will move it back to the day car park at 8:00 in the morning.

Saw this whacky sculpture near our building this afternoon.

The car park at McDonald’s (just out of town, on the way to the bridge) picks up a wifi signal, not strong but enough, so hopefully will post this tomorrow.
